Fawkner Park Most Reds' matches are played at picturesque Fawkner Park, a distorted honeycomb of grass, elms, oaks, paths, playgrounds, shelters, joggers, cyclists, dog-walkers, dog turds and (of course) cricket grounds - all within minutes of Melbourne's CBD. Named for one of Melbourne's founders, Fawkner has hosted public sport for almost 150 years, including cricket, Australian Rules and touch football, golf, baseball and softball (played by American soldiers stationed in Melbourne during World War 2). The park has even been used by several tai chi groups and a 'laughing club'.
Fawkner Park, a hundred acres in size, is bordered by St Kilda, Toorak, Punt and Commercial Roads. The MCA uses five turf cricket grounds at Fawkner, the largest being Cordner Oval. |
